Pengi review from 148Apps
Pengi offers a seemingly never-ending tidal wave of fun logical puzzles portrayed by a ridiculously cute penguin.
Pengi is a game that could be very easily overlooked. After all, just how many cute puzzle games are there on the App Store?! Exactly. Pengi isn’t even priced at the irresistibly low price of 99c, instead requesting 2 whole bucks. Sure it’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things but we all know just how far a dollar can go on the App Store. So just why should you give Pengi a chance?
Simple really, any game that you can start playing for just a few moments then realise that an hour has gone by, has to be worth the asking price. There’s a simple concept behind the beauty of Pengi. Players have to guide a series of penguins across each level ensuring that they rest on a matching coloured spot. They’re sliding around on ice though so the only way they can stop is by banging into the wall or snow blocks. Throw in the fact that you only have so many moves per level and things can get very interesting. This is exactly why it’s so much fun.
Once you figure out a level, it doesn’t take long at all to progress but Pengi can be a bit of a headscratcher. Fortunately if you’re entirely stumped, there’s always the handy hints button and a reset button so that you can start over.
Besides the Normal mode of play there’s also an Expert mode for a true challenge and a Free-Play mode if you want to just play it the easy way with as many hints as you like.
Pengi promises over 100,000 distinct puzzles and vows that no two puzzles are the same which is certainly great value for money. So while Pengi might not be an instant buy, you really should give it a shot. It’s deceptively brilliant and offers a heck of a lot of longevity.
